Immerse yourself in the deep, natural blue of indigo during a creative weekend retreat surrounded by the beauty of Ærø.
Over the course of three days, we’ll explore the art and alchemy of natural indigo dyeing from plant to pigment.
You’ll learn two traditional dyeing methods: a classic vat for wool and animal fibers, and a fructose vat suitable for cotton. On cotton, you’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with shibori, a Japanese resist-dyeing technique that creates beautiful patterns on fabric.
Beyond textiles, we’ll dive into indigo as an artist’s pigment - creating ink and watercolor from indigo, oak galls, and charcoal, and testing our handmade colors on paper.
Your guides for the weekend are Theresa Jessing and Astrid Colding Sivertsen, both deeply rooted in the world of natural color and creative craft.
